Angola: Inflation decelerates in January from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 14.6% on a year-on-year basis in January, following a 15.7% rise in the prior month. January’s reading was the weakest since August 2023.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were reduced price pressures for food and beverages (+14.9% on a year-on-year basis vs +16.1% in December), transport (+19.1% vs +19.2% in December), housing, water, electricity and fuel (+16.6% vs +17.0% in December), health (+15.9% vs +17.4% in December) and clothing (+13.0% vs +14.3% in December).
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.68% in January in month-on-month terms, following a 0.95% rise in the prior month.
