Natural gas U.S. prices averaged USD 2.68 per MMBtu in April, down 11.6% from March. On 30 April, the commodity traded at USD 2.76 per MMBtu, down 4.2% from 31 March.
In April, U.S. natural gas prices fell for the fifth month running and toward post-pandemic lows, with U.S. stocks of the fuel 7.7% above the five-year seasonal average in the week to 26 April. U.S. LNG exporters are near capacity, giving them limited ability to respond to the higher prices in Asia and Europe provoked by the Iran war; U.S. shipments rose in April, but only to a sliver above the previous all-time high in pre-war February. Instead, domestic factors, namely mild weather hurting demand, dominated.
