Agricultural prices increased 4.0% month on month in August, following July’s 6.6% rise.
In August, agricultural prices spiked reached to their highest average since June 2023, with virtually all commodities tracked by our panel trading higher month on month, on average. Adverse weather conditions in key producing regions amid the El Niño climate phenomenon, coupled with the ongoing U.S.-Iran war and intensifying attacks by Russia and Ukraine on each other’s ports and export and logistics infrastructure and logistical facilities in the Azov and Black Seas, sparked supply concerns across the agricultural complex. Additionally, higher crude oil prices continued to underpin demand for biofuel, derived from sugar, soybeans and palm oil.
