Agricultural prices decreased 5.3% month on month in June, following May’s 3.5% rise.
In June, agricultural prices retreated from May’s 15-month high, as six of the nine commodities tracked by our panel traded lower month on month, on average. The U.S.–Iran ceasefire and the reopening of the Hormuz Strait eased market jitters regarding supply and supported expectations of lower freight costs, while declining oil prices capped demand for plant-based fuel. Meanwhile, the arrival of El Niño weather conditions supported prices for several commodities, as anticipated droughts and heatwaves under El Niño sparked supply fears for agricultural commodities grown in Asia and the Americas.
