Aluminium prices averaged USD 3,658 per metric ton in May, up 1.8% from April. On 29 May, the commodity traded at USD 3,628 per metric ton, up 2.8% from 30 April.
In May, aluminium prices rose for a third straight month, climbing nearly 17% since January. The metal is particularly exposed to risks in the Strait of Hormuz, through which about 9% of global supply flows. Disruptions linked to the Iran conflict have tightened supply and the extended shutdown of the Strait, along with reported strikes on regional smelters, have raised concerns that the industry could face its most severe supply squeeze in decades.
