Palm oil prices averaged USD 1,444 per metric ton in March, up 6.9% from February. On 31 March, the commodity traded at USD 1,560 per metric ton, up 22.4% from 27 February.
In March, palm oil prices hit a one-year high, partly fueled by the war in the Middle East spurring energy, shipping and insurance costs. The spike has tempered demand from key buyer India—in a bet that prices will soon cool—which will have kept a lid on the rally.
