Coffee prices averaged USD 295 cents per pound in May, down 6.0% from April. On 29 May, the commodity traded at USD 291 cents per pound, down 5.3% from 30 April.
In May, arabica coffee traded at the lowest price in 18 months. An improving supply outlook in key producer Brazil outweighed upside pressures stemming from market concerns over El Niño weather conditions and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, with the latter keeping shipping, insurance and fuel prices elevated.
