Alumina prices averaged USD 353 per metric ton in August, up 5.0% from July. On 31 August, the commodity traded at USD 354 per metric ton, up 2.2% from 31 July.
In August, average alumina prices rose for the third straight month, reaching the highest level in a year. This was likely due to supply tightness amid refinery problems, including in Australia as a result of Cyclone Narelle.
