Costa Rica: Deflation deepens in December
Latest reading: Consumer prices fell 1.2% on a year-on-year basis in December, following a 0.4% drop in the previous month. December’s reading was the weakest since January 2024.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-3.0% yoy vs -0.8% in November), transportation (-3.5% vs -3.0% in November) and housing (+0.9% vs +1.0% in November).
Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.08% in December on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.47% increase in the prior month.
