France: Inflation ebbs in December from November
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices were up 0.7% on a year-on-year basis in December, following a 0.8% rise in the previous month.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were reduced price pressures for transportation (-0.3% in annual terms vs +0.7% in November) and housing and utilities (-1.3% vs -0.9% in November). In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+1.8% vs +1.5% in November), recreation (+0.6% vs +0.3% in November) and restaurants and hotels (+2.0% vs +1.9% in November).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 0.8% in annual terms in December, following a 0.9% increase in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices were up 0.08% in December in month-on-month terms, following a 0.20% fall in the previous month.
