Germany: Inflation inches up in January
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 2.1% on a year-on-year basis in January, following a 2.0% rise in the prior month.Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were stronger price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.9% in annual terms vs +1.7% in December) and recreation (+2.3% vs +1.3% in December). In contrast, price pressures were lower for transportation (+2.0% vs +2.7% in December), housing and utilities (0.6% vs +1.2% in December) plus for restaurants and hotels in December (+3.2% vs +3.6% in December).
Meanwhile, consumer prices rose 2.1% in January, following a 1.8% rise in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.17% in January on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.11% rise in the prior month.
