Guatemala: Economic activity slows in January
Latest reading: Economic activity was up 4.4% in annual terms in January, following a 4.7% rise in the prior month.
Meanwhile, annual average economic activity growth inched up to 4.2% from December’s 4.1% reading.
On the external front, merchandise exports growth lost steam in January, expanding 7.4% following December’s 9.6% expansion. Moreover, remittance inflows growth lost traction too, clocking in 7.5% growth in January, down from 15.5% growth in December. When it comes to remittances, stricter U.S. migration policies and rising deportation fears remain key to monitor.
