Guatemala: Economic activity speeds up in December
Latest reading: Economic activity was up 4.7% on a year-on-year basis in December, following a 4.3% rise in the prior month. December’s reading was the strongest since October 2024.
Meanwhile, annual average economic activity growth inched up to 4.1% from November’s downwardly revised 4.0% reading.
On the external front, merchandise exports growth gained steam in December, expanding 10.2% following November’s 4.0% expansion. Meanwhile, remittance inflows growth gained traction, clocking in 15.5% growth in December, up from 11.3% growth in November. When it comes to remittances, stricter U.S. migration policies and rising deportation fears remain key to monitor.
