Hungary: Inflation ebbs in December from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 3.3% in annual terms in December, following a 3.8% increase in the previous month. December’s reading was the weakest since October 2024 and inched down closer to the midpoint of the Central Bank’s 2.0–4.0% target range.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.3% in annual terms vs +0.6% in November), housing and energy (+6.6% vs +7.4% in November) and transport (-2.5% vs +0.3% in November). In contrast, price pressures were higher for clothing and footwear in December (+0.2% vs -0.3% in November).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices were up 3.8% on a year-on-year basis in December, following a 4.1% rise in the prior month.
Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.08% in December in month-on-month terms, following a 0.05% rise in the prior month.
