Ireland: Economic sentiment deteriorates but remains above threshold in January
Latest reading: Economic sentiment declined to 100.1 in January from December’s 100.7. Nevertheless, the latest reading remained slightly above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
In January, at the sector level, sentiment worsened in the construction sector (+16.8 vs +20.8 in December) and the services sector (+19.8 vs +25.0 in December). In contrast, sentiment improved in the industrial sector (+14.4 vs +13.1 in December), the retail sector (+9.0 vs +7.5 in December) and among consumers (-16.9 vs -17.4 in December).
