Italy: Inflation decelerates in October from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices increased 1.3% on a year-on-year basis in October, following a 1.8% rise in the previous month. October’s reading was the lowest since October 2024.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.6% on a year-on-year basis vs +3.7% in September), transportation (+0.2% vs +0.3% in September), housing and utilities (-1.7% vs -1.0% in September) and recreation (+0.6% vs +0.9% in September). In contrast, price pressures were higher for restaurants and hotels in October (+3.9% vs +3.7% in September).
Meanwhile, consumer prices increased 1.2% on a year-on-year basis in October, following a 1.6% rise in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices were down 0.16% in October in month-on-month terms, following a 1.29% increase in the previous month.
