Italy: Inflation eases in January from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices rose 1.0% in annual terms in January, following a 1.2% rise in the previous month. January’s reading was the weakest since September 2024.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.3% on a year-on-year basis vs +2.4% in December), transportation (-1.4% vs +0.6% in December) and recreation (+1.3% vs +1.6% in December). In contrast, there were higher price pressures for housing and utilities (-1.8% vs -2.0% in December) and restaurants and hotels (+3.5% vs +3.0% in December).
Meanwhile, consumer prices increased 1.0% in annual terms in January, following a 1.2% rise in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices fell 1.00% in January on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.20% rise in the previous month.
