Kazakhstan: Inflation eases in November from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 12.4% on a year-on-year basis in November, following a 12.6% rise in the previous month. This marked the second consecutive month of a slowdown in inflation.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+13.4% on a year-on-year basis vs +13.5% in October), health (+17.5% vs +18.0% in October) and housing and utilities (+9.9% vs +11.3% in October), with the latter continuing its strong downward trend following October’s temporary moratorium on fuel and utility tariff hikes. In contrast, there were more notable price pressures for transportation (+12.6% vs +12.2% in October) and restaurants and hotels (+15.8% vs +15.7% in October).
Finally, consumer prices increased 0.76% in November on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.53% rise in the previous month.
