Kazakhstan: Inflation eases in January from December
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 12.2% in annual terms in January, following a 12.3% increase in the previous month.
Relative to the prior month’s data, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+13.0% in annual terms vs +13.5% in December), transportation (+12.4% vs +12.7% in December) and housing and utilities (+8.3% vs +9.3% in December). In contrast, there were higher price pressures for health (+17.1% vs +17.0% in December) and restaurants and hotels (+14.4% vs +13.8% in December).
Finally, consumer prices were up 0.97% in January in month-on-month terms, following a 0.87% increase in the prior month.
