Qatar: Inflation picks up in January from December
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 2.3% in annual terms in January, following a 2.0% increase in the prior month. January’s reading was the strongest since February 2024.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food (+2.9% in annual terms vs +0.6% in December) and recreation and culture (+4.9% vs +1.4% in December). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for clothing (+3.2% vs +3.3% in December), housing (+1.2% vs +1.5% in December) and transport (-0.5% vs -0.4% in December).
Finally, consumer prices declined 2.22% in January in month-on-month terms, following a 1.44% rise in the previous month.
