Russia: Industrial production shrinks in January
Latest reading: Industrial production fell 0.8% in annual terms in January, following 3.7% growth in the prior month. January’s reading was the weakest since February 2025.
Relative to the prior month’s data, readings in January worsened for manufacturing (-3.0% on a year-on-year basis vs +7.8% in December) and water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (-7.0% vs -6.2% in December). In contrast, readings picked up for mining and quarrying (+0.5% vs -2.8% in December) and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+7.5% vs -0.7% in December).
In seasonally and calendar-adjusted month-on-month terms, industrial production flatlined in January, following a 1.5% rise in the prior month.
