Saudi Arabia: Inflation decelerates in January from December
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 1.8% in annual terms in January, following a 2.1% rise in the prior month. January’s reading was the weakest since February 2025.
Relative to the previous month’s data, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+0.2% on a year-on-year basis vs +1.3% in December) and recreation and entertainment (+2.3% vs +2.4% in December). In contrast, there were higher price pressures for clothing and footwear (+0.5% vs +0.4% in December) and housing and utilities (+4.2% vs +4.1% in December). Finally, the change in transport prices was the same as in the prior month (+1.5% in January and December).
Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.16% in January in month-on-month terms, following a 0.10% increase in the prior month.
