Slovakia: Inflation picks up in January from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices were up 4.3% on a year-on-year basis in January, following a 4.1% rise in the prior month and ranking as the highest inflation rate in the euro area.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+3.9% in annual terms vs +2.8% in December), housing and utilities (+9.2% vs +3.7% in December) and recreation (+5.9% vs +5.4% in December). In contrast, there were reduced price pressures for transportation (-1.8% vs +2.3% in December) and restaurants and hotels (+7.1% vs +8.9% in December).
Meanwhile, consumer prices increased 4.0% in January, following a 3.8% rise in the prior month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices rose 1.97% in January on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.34% decline in the prior month.
