South Africa: Manufacturing production falls in November
Latest reading: Manufacturing production declined 1.1% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in November, following 1.0% growth in the prior month. November’s reading was the weakest since March.
Relative to the prior month’s data, readings in November softened for petroleum, chemical products, rubber and plastic products (+1.3% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs +1.7% in October), food and beverages (-0.2% vs +0.5% in October), basic iron and steel, non-ferrous metal products, metal products and machinery (-4.1% vs +2.0% in October) and wood and wood products, paper, publishing and printing (-0.6% vs -0.3% in October).
On a year-on-year basis, manufacturing output fell 1.0% in November, following a 0.4% rise in the previous month.
