Taiwan: Inflation accelerates in December from November
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 1.3% on a year-on-year basis in December, following a 1.2% rise in the prior month.
Relative to the prior month’s data, price pressures were higher for education and entertainment in December (+1.7% in annual terms vs +1.3% in November). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for food (+1.2% vs +1.5% in November) and transportation (-1.4% vs -1.1% in November). Finally, the change in housing prices was the same as in the prior month (+1.9% in December and November).
Finally, consumer prices rose 0.07% in December in month-on-month terms, following a 0.15% decline in the previous month.
