Turkey: Current account posts larger deficit in April
Latest reading: The current account recorded a USD 7.9 billion deficit in April, deteriorating from the USD 4.3 billion deficit posted in March (April 2024: USD 4.8 billion deficit). Meanwhile, the 12-month trailing current account deficit widened, coming in at USD 15.8 billion in April (March: USD 12.8 billion deficit).
The merchandise trade balance deteriorated from the previous month, recording a USD 9.9 billion deficit in April (March 2025: USD 4.8 billion deficit). Merchandise exports shot up 10.8% over the same month last year in April (March: +5.1% year-on-year). April’s figure marked the fastest increase since July 2024. Meanwhile, merchandise imports jumped 16.0% on an annual basis in April (March: +3.5% yoy), marking the strongest result since January 2023.
