Inflation drops to over four-year low in September

Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 9.4% in annual terms in September, decelerating from the 11.5% increase recorded in the previous month. September’s reading marked a ninth consecutive fall and the lowest print since mid-2021. Relative to the previous month's figures, there were reduced price pressures for food and beverages (+10.8% on a year-on-year basis vs +14.8% in August) and clothing and footwear (+11.0% vs +12.9% in August). In contrast, there were higher price pressures for transport (-3.9% vs -5.2% in August), housing and utilities (+15.8% vs +14.2% in August) and recreation and entertainment (+16.6% vs +16.4% in August). Lastly, consumer prices were up 0.90% in September on a month-on-month basis, following a 1.29% decline in the prior month.
