Industrial production contracts faster in December
Latest reading: Industrial production declined 1.8% on a year-on-year basis in December, following a 1.7% fall in the prior month. December's reading was the weakest since February 2023. Relative to the previous month's figures, readings in December softened for manufacturing (-2.5% on a year-on-year basis vs -2.3% in November) and electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+1.7% vs +2.0% in November). In contrast, readings improved for mining and quarrying and water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (+2.7% and 0.0%, respectively).
