Inflation accelerates in February from January

Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices were up 3.1% on a year-on-year basis in February, following a 2.9% increase in the previous month. February's reading was the strongest since July 2025. Relative to the prior month's data, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+5.3% on a year-on-year basis vs +4.7% in January), transportation (+1.9% vs +1.6% in January), housing and utilities (+3.7% vs +3.4% in January) and restaurants and hotels (+5.2% vs +3.9% in January). In contrast, price pressures reduced for recreation in February (+1.1% vs +2.2% in January). Meanwhile, consumer prices increased 2.7% on a year-on-year basis in February, following a 2.5% increase in the prior month. Lastly, harmonized consumer prices were up 0.30% in February on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.74% fall in the prior month.
