Industrial production decelerates in November
Latest reading: Industrial production was up 1.4% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in November, following 2.5% growth in the prior month. Relative to the prior month's figures, the reading for traditional sector softened in November (-4.0% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms vs +9.5% in October). In contrast, the reading for modern sector improved in November (+2.1% vs +2.0% in October). The modern sector’s output tends to be volatile—even more so now as Trump’s tariffs wreak havoc on trade flows—due to the presence of multinational-dominated industries, such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and computers and electronics. In annual terms, industrial production rose 12.7% in November, following a 7.4% increase in the prior month.
