Industrial production rebounds in October
Latest reading: Industrial production increased 4.0% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in October, following a 8.6% drop in the previous month. Relative to the previous month's data, the reading for modern sector improved in October (+4.6% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs -10.5% in September). The modern sector’s output tends to be volatile—even more so now as Trump’s tariffs wreak havoc on trade flows—due to the presence of multinational-dominated industries, such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals and computers and electronics. In contrast, the reading for traditional sector softened in October (+1.0% vs +3.6% in September). On a year-on-year basis, industrial production rose 10.5% in October, following a 11.0% rise in the prior month.
