Inflation picks up in September from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices rose 3.1% on a year-on-year basis in September, following a 2.8% rise in the prior month and reaching the highest level since May 2024. Relative to the prior month's figures, there were higher price pressures for transportation (+2.3% on a year-on-year basis vs -0.3% in August) and housing and utilities (+6.2% vs +5.3% in August). In contrast, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+2.6% vs +2.8% in August), recreation (+3.5% vs +4.0% in August) and restaurants and hotels (+2.6% vs +3.1% in August). Meanwhile, consumer prices were up 2.7% in annual terms in September, following a 2.4% rise in the previous month. Finally, harmonized consumer prices were down 0.13% in September in month-on-month terms, following a 1.16% increase in the previous month.
