Consumer prices record greatest fall since January 2021 in April
Latest reading: Consumer prices decreased 0.7% in annual terms in April, which followed March’s 0.4% year-on-year decrease. April's result marked the largest fall in consumer prices since January 2021. The figure was largely driven by a softer rise in prices for food and non-alcoholic beverages. In addition, price pressures for transport plus housing and energy fell at a faster rate. Accordingly, the trend pointed down slightly, with annual average inflation coming in at 0.1% in April (March: 0.3%). Finally, consumer prices dropped 0.15% over the previous month in April, swinging from the 0.08% increase seen in March. April's result marked the weakest reading since October 2024.
