Consumer prices record first annual decline since March 2021 in May
Latest reading: Consumer prices fell 0.1% year-on-year in May, swinging from April’s flat reading. May's result represented the first such fall in consumer prices since March 2021. Prices declined for a range of goods and services, including food, transport and clothing. Annual average inflation fell to 0.6% in May (April: 0.7%). Meanwhile, core inflation edged down to 0.5% in May from April’s 0.6%. Lastly, consumer prices increased 0.14% in May over the previous month, picking up from April's 0.01% rise.
