Inflation ebbs in February from January
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 3.1% on a year-on-year basis in February, following a 3.5% increase in the previous month. The print was the lowest seen in several decades. Relative to the prior month's data, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+4.3% on a year-on-year basis vs +4.7% in January), clothing and footwear (-3.9% vs -3.3% in January), housing (+4.0% vs +5.4% in January) and transportation (-3.6% vs -3.5% in January). Finally, consumer prices rose 0.35% in February in month-on-month terms, following a 0.92% rise in the previous month.
