Brazil: Consumer confidence improves to three-month high in March
Latest reading: The seasonally adjusted consumer confidence index published by the Getúlio Vargas Foundation (Fundação Getúlio Vargas) went up to 88.1 in March, following February’s 86.1. As such, the latest reading moved closer to, but remained below, the 100-point threshold that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment. March’s reading was supported by controlled inflation the beginning of the Central Bank’s loosening cycle, plus job and income maintenance.
In March, households grew less pessimistic about the economy in the coming months (+92.1 vs +88.7 in February). On the flipside, consumers grew slightly more pessimistic about their current situation (+83.2 vs +83.5 in February).
Outlook: In January–March, consumer sentiment averaged slightly below Q4 2025’s levels, remaining in pessimistic territory and boding ill for household spending.
