Costa Rica: Fall in consumer prices deepens in February
Latest reading: Consumer prices declined 2.7% on a year-on-year basis in February, following a 2.5% decline in the prior month. February’s reading was the weakest since August 2023.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were milder price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (-8.3% on a year-on-year basis vs -7.9% in January) and transportation (-3.6% vs -2.6% in January). In contrast, price pressures were higher for housing in February (-0.4% vs -0.7% in January).
Finally, consumer prices fell 0.22% in February on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.96% fall in the previous month.
