Czech Republic: Inflation slows in January from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices rose 1.6% in annual terms in January, following a 2.0% rise in the previous month. January’s reading was the weakest since November 2016.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were milder price pressures for housing and utilities (+0.8% on a year-on-year basis vs +1.9% in December), transportation (-1.6% vs -0.1% in December) and recreation and culture (+2.5% vs +3.1% in December). In contrast, price pressures were higher for food and non-alcoholic beverages in January (+4.7% vs +4.2% in December).
Finally, consumer prices increased 0.90% in January on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.30% fall in the prior month.
