Egypt: Inflation accelerates in March from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices were up 15.2% on a year-on-year basis in March, following a 13.4% increase in the previous month. March’s reading was the strongest since May 2025.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+5.8% on a year-on-year basis vs +4.6% in February), transportation (+39.5% vs +27.5% in February) and housing and utilities (+35.3% vs +31.7% in February).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices increased 14.0% on a year-on-year basis in March, following a 12.7% rise in the prior month.
Finally, consumer prices were up 3.20% in March on a month-on-month basis, following a 2.80% increase in the prior month.
