Latest reading: Economic sentiment remained at December’s 93.8 in January. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In January, sentiment brightened in the retail sector (-6.0 vs -6.3 in December) and among consumers (-24.2 vs -26.1 in December). However, sentiment worsened in the industrial sector (-9.5 vs -8.9 in December), the construction sector (-5.4 vs -3.9 in December) and the services sector (+4.5 vs +5.4 in December).
