Germany: Industrial production falls in December
Latest reading: Industrial production was down 1.9% in calendar-adjusted month-on-month terms in December, following a 0.2% rise in the prior month and surprising markets to the downside.
Relative to the prior month’s data, the reading for industrial production worsened in December (-3.0% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs +1.6% in November). In contrast, readings improved for mining and quarrying (-0.8% vs -5.4% in November), energy (-1.8% vs -7.0% in November) and the construction sector (+3.0% vs -2.7% in November).
In calendar-adjusted year-on-year terms, industrial production was down 0.6% in December, following a 0.5% rise in the previous month.
