Germany: Merchandise trade surplus increases in December
Latest reading: In December, the trade balance was EUR +17.1 billion, following a EUR +13.6 billion reading in the prior month. Over the last 12 months, the trade balance summed to EUR +202.8 billion.
Merchandise exports rose 4.0% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in December, coming on the back of a 2.5% fall in the previous month. December’s reading was the strongest since October 2021. Merchandise imports were up 1.4% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in December, following a 0.7% rise in the previous month.
