Indonesia: Inflation accelerates in February from the prior month
Latest reading: Consumer prices increased 4.8% on a year-on-year basis in February, following a 3.5% rise in the prior month. February’s reading was the highest since March 2023 and breached the ceiling of Bank Indonesia’s 1.5–3.5% target range.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, price pressures in February were higher for housing, water, electricity and household fuels (+16.2% in annual terms vs +11.9% in January), transport (+0.1% vs -0.5% in January), recreation and entertainment (+1.0% vs +0.2% in January), and food, beverages and tobacco (+3.5% vs +1.5% in January).
Meanwhile, core consumer prices increased 2.6% in annual terms in February, following a 2.5% increase in the previous month.
Lastly, consumer prices rose 0.68% in February on a month-on-month basis, following a 0.15% fall in the previous month.
