Japan: Consumer confidence improves in February
Latest reading: Consumer confidence index rose to 40.0 in February, following January’s 37.9. The latest reading was below the threshold of 50.0 that separates optimistic from pessimistic sentiment, but it was the highest since April 2019.
In February, consumers grew more optimistic about their employment opportunities (+44.0 vs +42.4 in January), income growth (+42.5 vs +42.0 in January), overall livelihood (+39.7 vs +36.8 in January), and willingness to purchase durable goods (+33.9 vs +30.4).
