Japan: Industrial production contracts less quickly in December
Latest reading: Industrial production declined 0.1% in seasonally adjusted month-on-month terms in December, following a 2.7% fall in the prior month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, the reading for manufacturing improved in December (0.0% in month-on-month terms vs -2.8% in November). In contrast, the reading for mining softened in December (-2.9% vs +4.6% in November).
In annual terms, industrial production rose 2.6% in December, following a 2.2% decline in the prior month.
