Kazakhstan: Industrial production contracts in January
Latest reading: Industrial production declined 6.6% in annual terms in January, following a 8.1% rise in the prior month. January’s reading was the weakest since July 2020.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, readings in January worsened for manufacturing (+4.4% in annual terms vs +11.6% in December) and mining and quarrying (-19.9% vs +5.9% in December). In contrast, readings picked up for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply (+8.2% vs -0.6% in December) and water supply, sewerage, waste management and remediation activities (+5.9% vs -7.7% in December).
