Kazakhstan: Industrial output loses momentum in May
Latest reading: Industrial output grew 5.8% compared to the same month a year earlier in May, which was a deterioration from April’s 6.2% increase. Still, the reading easily outpaced the average of the decade preceding the pandemic. The slowdown chiefly reflected a softer rise in manufacturing output, which expanded at the weakest pace in nearly two years. More positively, energy output plus mining and quarrying picked up pace, and water supply fell at a milder clip.
Meanwhile, annual average industrial production growth rose to 4.2% in May (April: +3.9%), signaling an improving trend in the industrial sector.
