Latest reading: Economic sentiment went down to 104.4 in January, following December’s 104.9. The latest reading was above the long-term average of 100, pointing to a positive near-term outlook for the economy.
In January, sentiment worsened in the industrial sector (-4.8 vs -4.0 in December) and among consumers (+1.6 vs +1.7 in December). However, sentiment brightened in the construction sector (-8.2 vs -9.2 in December), the services sector (+8.7 vs +8.6 in December) and the retail sector (+8.1 vs +5.4 in December).
