Lithuania: Inflation picks up in May from the prior month
Latest reading: Harmonized consumer prices were up 5.1% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 4.9% increase in the previous month. May’s reading was the strongest since August 2023.
Relative to the previous month’s figures, there were higher price pressures for transportation (+14.3% in annual terms vs +12.6% in April), housing and utilities (+8.2% vs +7.1% in April) and restaurants and hotels (+6.5% vs +6.3% in April). In contrast, there were reduced price pressures for food and non-alcoholic beverages (+0.3% vs +1.1% in April) and recreation (+4.7% vs +5.8% in April).
Meanwhile, consumer prices were up 5.5% on a year-on-year basis in May, following a 5.3% increase in the previous month.
Finally, harmonized consumer prices fell 0.07% in May in month-on-month terms, following a 0.67% increase in the previous month.
