Poland: Retail sales speed up in December
Latest reading: Retail sales increased 5.3% on a year-on-year basis in December, following a 3.3% increase in the prior month.
Relative to the prior month’s figures, readings in December improved for motor vehicles, motorcycles and parts (+13.1% on a year-on-year basis vs +12.9% in November), furniture, radio, TV and household appliances (+19.8% vs +16.6% in November), food, beverages and tobacco (+1.9% vs -2.9% in November) and fuel (+8.3% vs +5.9% in November). In contrast, the reading for textiles, clothing and footwear softened in December (+6.0% vs +12.2% in November).
On a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis, retail sales rose 0.2% in December, following a 1.1% increase in the previous month.
