Latest reading: Economic sentiment fell to 92.3 in January, following December’s 93.1. The latest reading was below the long-term average of 100, pointing to a muted near-term outlook for the economy.
In January, sentiment darkened in the industrial sector (-2.1 vs -2.0 in December), the services sector (-1.1 vs -0.2 in December), the retail sector (-2.1 vs -1.3 in December) and among consumers (-34.6 vs -30.9 in December). However, sentiment brightened in the construction sector (-11.5 vs -11.6 in December).
