Romania: Industrial production contracts in January
Latest reading: Industrial production declined 3.3% on a working-day and seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis in January, following a 0.8% rise in the prior month. January’s reading was the weakest since May 2024.
Relative to the prior month’s data, readings in January softened for manufacturing (-5.1% on a seasonally adjusted month-on-month basis vs +1.2% in December) and mining and quarrying (-2.8% vs +0.7% in December). In contrast, the reading for electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply improved in January (+6.5% vs -2.6% in December).
In working-day and seasonally adjusted year-on-year terms, industrial production fell 3.8% in January, following a 1.7% increase in the prior month.
